St Giles Quarter and Cultural Quarter Growing
Fabulous news for the Southern area of Town Centre as the Borough Council give planning permission to the Vulcan Works in Guildhall Road. Just one of a number of new projects which will ensure The Cultural Quarter prospers as more business and employees move to the area.
The Vulcan Works
The Vulcan works was built in 1875 for engineering company Mobbs & Co and was later turned into a leather warehouse. The frontage in Guildhall Road will undergo sympathetic restoration whilst other buildings in Angel Street and Fetter Street are demolished and rebuilt. On completion the new buildings will house the University of Northampton’s Institute of Creative Leather Technologies and Leather Conservation Centre as well as offices and 49 flexible units to be let out to creative professionals, bringing over 300 jobs to the project.
Museum Extension
A major expansion and refurbishment project is shortly to take place which will enable many unseen exhibits shown off and combine with cafe, shop, shoe galleries together with schools and activity space.
Project Angel-Northants County Council Offices
The new County Council office building on the corner of Angel Street which is nearing completion will house up to 2,000 employees bringing vibrancy to what was originally just a car park.
The Guild Hotel
A new boutique hotel due to open soon at 13-15 Guildhall Road which will house 12 bedrooms and a bistro. The two original Victorian bay fronted town houses will be sympathetically refurbished and restored to their original glory to become a real asset to the street.
