Vintage Guru Hits St Giles Street
Over 60 traders will be moving into Northampton Town Centre this month when a ‘new type of shopping experience for a new type of shopper’ opens in Northampton’s St Giles Street on Saturday 18th August.
In the words of Mark Twain, reports of the death of the high street have been greatly exaggerated, and confidence in Northampton will be boosted this month when new vintage and retro emporium Vintage Guru opens its doors in the old Manna House on St Giles Street. At 11am, when TV’s face of upcycling, Max McMurdo, cuts the ribbon, and much loved BBC Northampton presenter, Bernie Keith, mans the turntables throughout the afternoon, town centre shoppers will encounter more than 60 independent retailers all housed under one roof.
Vintage Guru which brings together vintage clothing, vinyl records, vintage and retro gifts and household items, and upcycled furniture is the brainchild of Matthew Lewis Crick and Julie Teckman. They are bringing their shared passion for upcycled, preloved and handmade items into creating an emporium in which shoppers can indulge in nostalgia while finding something that is truly unique.
Julie says, “Northamptonshire has already got a strong reputation as a centre for vintage and antiques with new and established vintage emporia in most parts of the county, and we want to bring it to the heart of the town, to the best street for independent traders. With the University opening at Waterside this Autumn we wanted to offer something for the thousands of students who will be studying and living in the town centre as well as for loyal shoppers who already enjoy St Giles Street.”
Matthew says “We are really excited to be bringing so many unusual and stylish traders to the town. From artisan wire sculptures and lighting to unique handmade denim jackets and hats, we have something for everybody. The modern shopper cares about sustainability as well as value and we believe that there is no longer any stigma in buying goods that have provenance. For us Vintage is the New New!”
The shop will be open seven days a week from 11 until 7pm most days to complement the lives and needs of the town and its shoppers.
